## Overview

After creating and saving a Part Kit, the next step is assigning it.

Part Kits can be assigned to:

- **Vehicles** – so mechanics can quickly reference or add the correct parts.
- **Service Items** – so parts automatically populate when that service item is added to a work order.

Assignments are managed from the **Part Kit View Page**, and can also be managed from the Vehicle or Service Item view pages.

---

## Part Kit View Page

## What This Means on a Work Order

Part Kit assignments affect work orders in different ways:

### If Assigned to a Vehicle

When creating a work order for a vehicle that has part kits assigned:

- A **Part Kits** button appears in **Step 6 ** of the work order.
- You can view and add the vehicle’s kits in one click.

![image-20260211-191137.png](media://9c12f7d6-2f76-4c8a-903e-cdd53418bc39)

Click the “Part Kits” button to add that part kit to the work order form as individual part line items.

---

### If Assigned to a Service Item

When adding that service item to a work order:

- All parts from the assigned kit automatically populate as line items.
- Quantities prefill based on the kit setup.
- You can still edit quantities, warehouse, or cost if needed.

Once a part kit has been assigned to a service item, in **Step 6 ** of the work order create form, click the “**+ Add Service Item” **button.

![image-20260211-191451.png](media://5a2299a0-2af7-4d29-a603-5552ca5e9090)

Once the modal appears, type in the name of your service item and select it from the dropdown. You will see all of the parts automatically added to that service item, building out your line items. You can adjust the quantity, warehouse, or unit cost on any line item, if needed. *This will only impact the work order you are on and will not change the part kit record.*

## When to Assign to Vehicles vs Service Items

Assign to a **Vehicle** when:

- The vehicle consistently uses certain parts.
- You want quick reference of what parts are used on a specific vehicle or vehicle type.

Assign to a **Service Item** when:

- A service always requires the same parts.
- You want parts to auto-add every time that service item is added to a work order.
