# How to Create an Asset

Creating and managing assets in EKOS is simple with our guided setup process. Follow the steps below to add a new vehicle, piece of equipment, or other asset into your account.

From your EKOS dashboard, click **Create Asset**.

You’ll see a progress bar showing you are on **Step 1 of 6**. The setup is broken into:

1. General Information
2. Asset Lifecycle
3. Body Specifications
4. Engine Details
5. Maintenance
6. Configurations

Use the **Next** button to move forward or **Previous** to go back.

### Step 1 - General Information

In this section, fill out the basic details of your asset:

- **Asset #** *(Required)*: Unique identifier for this asset (e.g., fleet number or internal tag).
- **Vehicle Description** *(Required)*: Short description of the asset.
- **Department** *(Required)*: Select the department this asset belongs to.
- **Status** *(Required)*: Choose the current status (e.g., Active, Needs Repair, Out of Commission, etc).
- **Ownership** *(Required)*: Select if the asset is Company-owned, Leased, etc.

### Asset Category

Choose the type of asset you are adding:

- **Vehicle**
- **Equipment**
- **Other Asset**

### Vehicle Identification Information

For vehicles, add identification details:

- **VIN**: Enter the Vehicle Identification Number
- **License**: License plate number.
- **Year**: Manufacturing year.
- **Vehicle Types**: Select the type (car, truck, trailer, etc.).
- **Vehicle Make & Model**: Search and select from the dropdown, or click **+** to add a new option.
- **Class**: Choose the appropriate class (light, medium, heavy-duty, etc.).
- **Serial Number**: Enter if applicable.
- **Color**: Vehicle color.
- **Driver Name**: Assign a driver if needed.
- **Notes**: Any additional details.

### Step 2 - Enter Vehicle Lifecycle Cost Information (Optional)

Enter the following information:

- Purchase Date
- Purchase Cost
- Delivery Date
- MSRP
- In Service Date
- In Service Meter
- Out Service Date
- Out Service Meter
- Sold Date
- Sold Cost
- Expect Life (Years)
- Expected Life Meter
- PO Number
- Recall - toggle on or off

### Step 3 - Body Specifications (Optional)

Enter in Body Specifications like body type, length, interior volume, curb weight, etc and wheels and tires information as needed.

### Step 4 - Engine and Transmission Details (Optional)

Enter associated engine and transmissions details you want noted.

### Step 5 - Maintenance (Optional)

Enter your current odometer reading.

> ⚠️ Enter the current meter value to ensure maintenance reminders are scheduled correctly. Without this, reminders may appear overdue.

In this step you can also select a PM program. PM Programs contain multiple maintenance schedules that automatically create service reminders for your vehicle.

Finally, enter vehicle service information to set your home location, service location and fueling location.

### Step 6 - Configurations (Optional)

Enter your primary meter, measurement unites, fuel units and whether or not the vehicle is fleet managed. Then click Save Asset, or Save and Add Another.
