# Inventory Value Grid

The inventory value grid allows users to see the total dollar value of fuel in all their tanks based on the inventory method selected for a tank. This grid is valuable for accounting and finance teams that need to see the current value of fuel on hand for their organization.

To enable the grid to work, users will need to update the inventory method in each tank to Weighted Average Cost. This is explained below.

EKOS will allow the user to set the Inventory Unit Cost when entering a delivery entry so the user can set a beginning and dovetail EKOS to their ledger. The first delivery for a tank that has a unit cost entered will be treated as the starting point for EKOS to do the weighted average cost calculation.

The user can go back 7 years, 7 months, or 7 days and choose a delivery where they want to start the weighted average cost. Most customers will go back to the first delivery after the fiscal year beginning and enter the unit cost for that delivery. The benefit of letting the user select a delivery when they want EKOS to start is that this will allow them to dovetail their ledger with EKOS.

EKOS will query for all deliveries for a tank and look for the first delivery that has a unit cost entered. After the user keys in the unit first for the delivery they identify as their beginning delivery, they will not use the unit cost anymore because EKOS will be perpetually calculating the weighted average cost. Therefore, EKOS will need conditional logic to look to see if the user keyed in the unit cost. If they did key it in then that will be the number EKOS uses for calculating the weighted average cost, otherwise EKOS will use the price per gallon.
