# Lifecycle

EKOS allows users to track all of the key metrics associated with an asset’s lifecycle. By entering information in some of the key fields, EKOS can also calculate lifetime meter and usage and produce reports to help target asset replacement.

## Setting the Asset Lifecycle values

When creating a new Asset, Users are encouraged to enter the Purchase and Lifecycle Details located in Step 7 of the form.

### Key Field Definitions:

- **Purchase Date** - The date in which the asset was purchased
- **Delivery Date - **The date in which the asset was delivered or came into your possession
- **In Service Date - **The date in which the asset went into service
- **In Service Meter - **The starting meter when the asset was first put into service by your organization. EKOS will use this field when calculating the lifetime meter usage.
- **Out of Service Date - **The date in which the asset was removed from service by your organization
- **Out of Service Meter - **The ending meter when the asset was removed from service by your organization
- **Expected Life Years - **The number of expected useful life years of the asset. Another way to look at it is in the form of the question: “How many years of service are you expecting to get out of this asset before disposal?”  
**Expected Life Meter - **The number of expected miles or hours to be used over the life of the asset. Another way to look at it is in the form of the question: “How many miles or hours are you expecting to get out of the asset before disposal?”

## Calculating Actual Usage and Lifetime Meter

**Actual Usage in Years - **EKOS looks at the elapsed time from the In-Service Date through today, and calculates the elapsed time in Years.

> ℹ️ *If the Lifetime Usage is not calculating on the Asset View page, then you most likely need to set the “In Service Date” for the asset.*

**Lifetime Meter - **EKOS calculates the lifetime meter as: <u>(Current Meter) - (In-Service Meter) + (Meter Offset)</u>

- If the In Service Meter and Meter Offset are not entered, EKOS will treat those empty values as “0” when performing the calculation

> ℹ️ “Meter Offsets” are used when rolling the meter on an asset. If the asset’s odometer gets replaced at 999,999 miles, you would add an offset of 999,999 to the asset. EKOS will then use that offset to continue calculating the “Lifetime Meter” when the current meter rolls over back to 1.
