# Create Tanks
Upon clicking Add Tank you will be given a step by step screen on how to add tanks.
### *STEP 1*
Choose a Fuel Site
- Site – select a site from the dropdown menu
- Status – choose active, damaged, in repair, retired, sold, or suspended from the dropdown menu
- Tank Description
- Tank Number
- Tank Capacity
- Inventory Method – EKOS allows users to choose an inventory method (which dictates how inventory will be valued) for each tank. The inventory method selected will dictate how EKOS calculates the value of products in the tank and reports on it. For example, if the tank is set up for LIFO as an inventory method, then EKOS will look at the price of the product entered on the last order and multiply that price times the number of units in the tank. The resulting inventory value will be available on reports, dashboards, and exports for your accounting team.
### *STEP 2*
Setup Alarm Levels and Tank Management. When you create a tank, EKOS tries to help you automatically set tank alarms at levels which are industry best practices. When you type in the tank’s capacity in Step 1, EKOS sets your tank alarms levels at 95% for your overfill alarm; 90% for your high alarm; 10% for your low alarm; and 3% for your run-out alarm.
EKOS recommends the following alarm levels:
- Overfill alarm
- High alarm
- Low alarm
- Run-out alarm
- Min load quantity
- Reorder point
- Buying window open: the Buying Window is commonly known as the period of time when a fuel buyer can order a load of fuel and safely fit the fuel into the tank without running out, overfilling the tank, or incurring extra costs on freight. The buying window first opens at the very first point that the tank can hold the minimum load quantity. The buying window closes at either the low-level alarm (set by the buyer) or the run-out alarm level. The buying window open level is also known as the “retain level”.
- Tank Strategy: select either Keep Full, or Just in Time
- Keep Full: if this is selected the user is indicating that they want to keep the tank as full as possible without incurring extra freight or ordering costs. With this strategy the user will want their reorders to take place as soon as the buying window for the tank is open (as soon as they can fit a load). A keep full strategy auto sets the reorder point to the same level as when the Buying Window Opens (which is also known as the retain level or the earliest point you can fit a load into the tank.)
- Just-In-Time (“JIT”): If this is selected the user is indicating that they want to run the tank as low as possible before reordering to minimize the amount of cash held in fuel inventory. A well-maintained JIT strategy can significantly reduce the amount of cash extended out on fuel and save organizations money on interest and opportunity costs. EKOS helps manage JIT strategies by combining tank alarms, forecasting, reorder points and more.
### *STEP 3*
Enter tank details and specifics about its construction. Entering equipment details is optional, but highly recommended for service and repair. Taking the extra time to fill in all the construction details about the tank is an important step because it helps with Service and Repair. If you have a TANK CHART (also known as a ‘strapping chart’), then make sure you upload it into EKOS for future reference. Knowing the diameter and length can help define the capacity of the tank and translate inches of product into a number of units (gallons/liters). This is very important when setting your inventory alarms (especially the run-out alarm).
You can fill out the following details:
- Manufacturer: select a manufacturer from the dropdown menu
- Model Number
- Diameter (inches)
- Length (Inches)
- Piping Size
- Storage Type
- Positioning
- Walls Type
- Material
- Fill Type
### *STEP 4*
Choose if you want to enroll this tank in extra EKOS services. You can enter tanks into the fuel loss prevention (inventory reconciliation) program and the EKOs index benchmark for your fuel purchasing.
*Fuel loss prevention:* Selecting this option will enroll the tank in the EKOS fuel loss prevention program which is a fully functional inventory reconciliation tool designed to help users reduce loss. Loss can come from many places such as theft or from spills, so it is important for organizations to manage fuel reconciliation every day. Tanks that are not subject to environmental regulation or tanks where the organization is not concerned with theft (such as used waste oil) would not be enrolled. A tank must have an inventory monitoring device or method before you would enroll the tank. If you get inventory levels by stick reading and/or track sales by hand, those are valid methods in EKOS and the EKOS fuel loss program will help you reconcile the tank.
- Enrollment status: N/A status will exclude this tank in any inventory reconciliation screens and calculations
- Use ATG deliveries for Inventory Rec: User can check this box or leave it empty
- **Important Note: If you select this option, EKOS will ****only use ATG deliveries**** for Inventory Rec. It will ****never**** look at BOL deliveries that are entered through the bulk fuel module.**
- If this box is left unchecked, then EKOS will look first for BOL deliveries from the Bulk Fuel Module, and will only use ATG deliveries if there are no deliveries keyed in on that day
- Hide on buying window: select show or hide
*EKOS Index Benchmark:* The EKOS Index is a very powerful benchmarking tool designed to help organizations track and measure their fuel buying performance against the market. The index includes national tax management and national freight tables so users can see what a “fair price” for fuel every day is delivered to the tank. Enrolling in this feature sets you up for powerful reports and the Bulk Fuel Robot feature. Certain tanks such as waste oil and non-fuel products would not be enrolled.
By selecting that you want EKOS to use ATG (automatic tank gauge) Deliveries for inventory reconciliation, EKOS will not look at BOL gross or net gallons during reconciliation and will only focus on the ATG delivery.
### *STEP 5*
Connect the Tank to an Inventory Monitor. Correctly setting up how a tank is manifolded to other tanks is critical for fuel loss prevention and accurately reconciling your inventory. If you don't set up the manifold, then EKOS will not be able to match up fuel deliveries and it will not get inventory readings. Fill out the following:
- Inventory Monitor
- ATG Tank #
- Vendor Tank ID: this value will auto set after solving, if the linked monitor is on ATG
- Manifold: Choose if this tank is the primary or secondary tank in a manifold
